“Mama Ostrzegała” by Daj To Głośniej

Next up is a Folk Disco track called “Mama Ostrzegała” (Mother’s Warning) by Daj To Głośniej. It immediately appealed to me because the lyrics repeat the word “mama” in the refrain several times, and I have a 20-year-old cat named Mama. I’m sure she’ll think the song is about her! The song is also catchy and uptempo, which definitely helps.

The lyrics can be translated to English as: “Mother, mother, mother warned you. You will be alone, alone, weaving your own wreaths.”

The mother is cautioning her daughter about the consequences of her decisions. The phrase “you will be alone” suggests that the daughter will end up isolated or without a partner, possibly due to her own choices.

The reference to “weaving your own wreaths” is metaphorical. In traditional Polish culture, wreaths (“wianki” in Polish) symbolize marriage, fertility, and celebration. Young women would often weave wreaths together during social gatherings and festivals, making this warning of isolation particularly dire.

I’ll see you again when I have the chorus memorized and I’m singing it to my cat. 🙂
